Prolinat 1850R - Netware 5.1 - Abend running process CPQDASA.NLM

I have a Problem with one Proliant 1850R running NetWare 5.1 SP5 with Compaq Agents 6.00. There is a storage-subsystem attached with five 36GB Hd??s configured as RAID5. During the last month the server had 2 abends both - the following showing up in the integrated management log:

Fatal Exception (Number 14, Cause Abend: Page Fault Running Process: CPQDASA.NLM code executing in module cpqarray.ham v2.9 at offset +8376h

Does anyone know about this? Is there a fix?

Thanks in advice,
Alex.

Hello;

Without knowing any of the details of your configuration (for instance, did this abend occur with an older version of cpqdasa? did you have it installed before version 6?) I can offer the following:

cpqdasa is the disk array subsystem agent used for monitoring systems attached to an array controller - if you are not using Insight Manager to monitor the server, you can remove it.

All the agents load with the cpqsnmp.cfg file - you can use a text editor to REM out the load of that agent, or REM cpqsnmp out of your autoexec.bat if you are not interested in monitoring the server with IM.

Of course if you want the monitoring capabilities, you will have to experiment with alternate versions of the agent by copying them into sys:system.

I am not aware of any particular issues with that version of the agent.

I hope that helps!

Janine,

first of all, thanks for yur quick response!

I??m using Insight Manager, so I would like to use the agents. Before Version 6.00 of the agents I got two similar Abends with CPQNCSA.NLM (not CPQDASA like now). I don??t know which Version I was using before 6.00 but I know that they were within NSSD 6.40 Sep. 2001.

Generally I??m a bit confused with the versioning support software! The Latest Proliant Support Pack for Novell NetWare i find is 6.10A but in the supported Servers my 1850R isn??t listed. I??ve asked last year (December) if I can install this on my 1850R anyway and I was told that I can install it. But now I??m not quite sure...;-)

Hey!

I remember you! :-)

And thank you for the reminder - I just put in another request for clarification with regard to driver support and web-availablity.

Nothing has changed though Alex.

The newest drivers and agents should work in your environment.

If cpqdasa is causing abends and you want the functionality of Insight Manager, you can experiment with different versions of that particular agent - copy in version 6.0 again and see how that works.

You also want to make sure that the related drivers - cpqarray and cpqhlth are all up to date, but I'm guessing you've already done that.

Ciao!

Re: Prolinat 1850R - Netware 5.1 - Abend running process CPQDASA.NLM

I had a simular problem with my Proliant 1850R. It is running Netware 6.0 SP2. The errors were very simular to what you were experiencing.

One thing that I did which corrected the problem was update my array controler firmware (Smart Array 5300)to the most current version, I made sure that the disk drive firmware was the latest version and I also updated NSS with post service pack 2 files. Since you are on 5.1 you might not be using NSS but I did recieve an error relating directly to NSS pools. I also reapplied the service pack before doing any of the above.

After doing this it has been 4 months and so far so good.

Hope this helps,

Sean
