can anyone tell me how to find out which raid controller is in this machine and how to configure it?

You would need to get the Compaq part number off the Array Controller board, with that, it can be determined which Smart Array Controller you have installed. Depending on what controller, will determine how to configure the array.

Read carefully all messaged during the boot.
You'll get all system devices reported.
aslo, hit F10 (look for the message in the top right corner og the screen)
