Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
Greetings fellow persons
I need advice on what can be causing one of my servers to have a failed disk in the same bay. I must have replaced the disk 5 times in the same bay and each new disk has been replaced successfully. The failure times between replacementa vary.
Would this issue be pointing to the hardware that the disk is connecting into? I am not a hardware person really.
Thanks in advance for any advice...

Re: Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
Yes :)
5 HDD failures in one particular bay, most likely is caursed by the Drive cage backplane, the cable or the array controller.
If the HDD just seem to be totally dead, I would suspect the aboave. My guess is that if you reseat the drive it will go back online.

Re: Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
Hi, be sure to have all the latest hardware firmware
We had a similar issue, and we finally replaced the HDD drive cage with the backplane.
Problem solved.

Re: Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
Multiple drives getting failed on same bay is unusual and should be related to the Drive Backplane (Card in the bay which gets connected to the drive)
Backplane distributes the power and signal to the drive and if there is any fault in these lines then the same drive slot may produce faulty drives.
Could you share the Model number of server and controller?

Re: Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
Did you find the cause of the hard drive failure?

Re: Repeated Disk failure in the same Bay
I know this is an old post but I am having the same problem with two different servers. An ML350G5 and an ML350 G6. Both at different client sites, both servers keep showing the drive in Bay 5 is bad. I've confirmed the drives are not bad but even putting a new drive into the bay and power cycling server it will not recognize there is a drive in there. I got a new backplane for the G6 and the problem persisted. Is this a problem with the onboard controller or the controller to backplane cable. I'm perplexed and need assistance in troubleshooting these. Both of these servers are still in production.
