SAS Expander - Do Cables matter?

Hey,

We fitted a SAS expander to our DL385 Gen10 and are experiencing really poor disk read/write performance compared to a near identical DL385 without a SAS expander.

HST1 (with Expander) Read = 856MB/s, Write = 161MB/s
HST2 (without) Read = 6555MB/s, Write = 6445MB/s

Write performance is a huge difference!

When it was fitted we didn't have the cable pack and used a mix of 2 cables that came with the expander and existing in the server.

Are the cable packs just the same cables of different lengths to fit the server properly, or do they serve a different purpose?

Thanks
James
