Server does not see all RAM

Hello. I have a problem. My HP proliant ML30 Gen9 server does not see all RAM after replacing the processor with a more powerful Intel xeon E3 1275 v6. Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. Help (
Installed 48 Gb, sees 32, 16 in the reserve. Aida64 shows a limit on the north bridge (Intel Kaby Lake-H/S WS IMC) of 32 GB on CPU. Before worked fine with Xeon e3 1220 v5 and seen all 48Gb RAM. With RAM all right. Tested RAM one piece, everything works. Begins to reserve over 32Gb

Did everything possible. (swapped RAM, 2 times rearrange the new processor, check Maximum Memory option at msconfig >boot > advanced options). Update to last BIOS and ILo before replacing the processor. System Information in google disk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F1QcY0GQ_7sIPzMqeCp5o6NxzkOLZMZI/view?usp=sharing

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Hi,

Have you checked this article from Microsoft?
Here is the QuickSpecs for ML30 Gen9, but I dont see Intel xeon E3 1275 v6 as a compatible processor for this server.

797258-081 = 819800-001 = HPE 8GB (1 x 8GB) Dual Rank x8 DDR4-2133 CAS-15-15-15 Unbuffered Standard Memory Kit
797259-091 = 819801-001 = HPE 16GB (1 x 16GB) Dual Rank x8 DDR4-2133 CAS-15-15-15 Unbuffered Standard Memory Kit

Thank You!

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Strange, the chipset is the same 1275 and 1270... ((  what do you think, with the processor 1240 v6. Will all 48 GB of RAM work?

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Hi,
is there really no other fix?
I just upgraded to a v6 and only half of the RAM is found.
The strange part, iLO shows me all four, but channel B has no voltage.

N/A

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Hello Suman,
Is there anything we can do?
I got the parts from the HP spec list, but it makes no sense that upgrading the CPU to a v6 is cutting the RAM in half.

I got a DL20 gen9 as well.

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Hi,

Nice. The only issue here is, that even the BIOS for the DL20 Gen9 is hidden behind a paywall.

So, that is not helping me, but I am happy for you that it works out.

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Which Bios version did you use? I'm on 3.10 but still doesnt see the full ram (dl20 gen9)

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Thank you for the reply. So, basically there is no way to use all four RAM in you device.

Fantastic.

Why is it even in the compability list if that does not work at all?

I am on 3.02 at the moment.

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Maybe this problem?

https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/Issues-with-HPE-Proliant-ML30-Gen9-and-Intel-XEON-E3-1280-v6/m-p/1201703

Maybe by swapping our cpu we bent the pins because they tend to stick to the old cpu?

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Or maybe the v6 needs ddr4 2400mhz and doesnt work correctly with the 2133mhz...

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I checked the pins from the old one and the new one before I switched. When I put the v5 in, I have all the RAM in my slots and none of them show N/A. I use DDR4 2400 in all four slots. iLO even shows me the full amount of RAM in that window. However, the same N/A in the voltage for the second channel as in that picture from "Efthy" in that forum. (I just bought 2x16GB, so I would have at least 32GB if I can only use one channel) It was 4x4GB before. All of the are 2400.

Re: Server does not see all RAM

I have checked the pins also, they seem perfectly alright. I have put in the old cpu (1220 v5) and it sees all the ram again. Only thing left might be incompatible ram, that the system goes into some kind of safe mode if there are problems with the ram. After all this seems to be a system issue... no answer from hpe?

Hello,

Please refer to the memory population rules and guidelines for HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 server. You may refer to the option parts list, section memory for more information of supported memory module options.

Re: Server does not see all RAM

Hi,

I chose to go back to a v5 CPU again. I don't understand why a v6 is on the compatibility list at all now. If you want all RAM to show up and still want the max power for that server, go with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 v5 @ 3.50GHz. Tired of experimenting. I really enjoyed HPE for quite some time and I will keep my DL20 Gen8, but I changed over to Dell servers. No paywall keeping me from drivers or updates.
