Upgradeing Smart Array 6i Controller Firmware to current Release 2.80 I got this Error after Reboot:
1734-Stot 0 Drive Array Disk Drive(s) Responding to Incorrect SCSI ID
Back up data, Replace faulty drive, Reconfigure array and Restore
SCSI Port 1: SCSI ID 4
The Server is a DL380G4 Highperformance Model (includes two SCSI Channels to Disk Drives).
After Downgrade to Version 2.76 all is fine again.

RAID 6 (ADG) Status: Disabled
Controller Status: OK
Chassis Slot: 1
Hardware Revision: Rev B
Firmware Version: 2.76

Surface Scan Delay: 15 sec
Cache Board Present: True
Cache Status: OK
Accelerator Ratio: 50/50 (read/write)

I did manage to retreive Array Diagnostics Utility Output for both Firmwares and made Fotos from Console Output and Array Lights. Find these attached.
Does anyone have similar experience with Firmware 2.80 ?

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
Well all my servers are manage with HP Insight 5.1 sp1, with VCA, it all automatic but never got the release yet for this version, may be they got it out to soon?
All my system that have that smart array is at version 2.76.
It was there it seems HP remove it :http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:2HOLXH0q6goJ:h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27855.html+smart+array+firmware+2.80&hl=fr&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=ca
it seem to be only in the cache of google,
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27855.html
now it not responding may be on error or it been removed

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
thank you for your Info.
I know that 2.76 is provided with the latest Firmware Maintenance CD Version 7.90.
But the Current Release as provided via HP Support on there Homepage is 2.80. I just checked it again, it is still there
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/69_5561.html#43
:-(I hope this buggy version is not on the upcoming FW/SmartStart 8 Release)

Roland

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
leave the firmware in 2.76 don't update to 2.80 (which is available at HP.com) but when is used shows that information 1734 POST Error.
so wait for a fix in the next firmware update for 6i controller

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
Old MoBos (from 2004) do not show up this error with 2.80
Maybe it has something to do with Hardware Revisions (concerning the SA6i all of them show up Rev B).

Roland

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
I called back 14 hours later after not getting a callback, and was advised that HP's official position is that firmware updates should only ever be done under direct guidance of an HP technician, preferably by them.
Anyone that applies an update without HP support on the phone accepts he will likely lose his data.
It's a funny position, given that I called about a failed hard drive not long ago, and HP wouldn't replace it because the firmware was one revision back, and they felt if I'd been "looking after my serve appropriately" I would have applied the update myself as soon as it came out.
I had asked to speak to a manager, but was advised HP technicians work on their own and do not have managers.
I'd love to see a solution to this that isn't so rediculous.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
Is the message coming just for one SCSI ID or for all of them.
Please post an ADU(Array Diagnostic Utility) report.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
I've opened a call for this issue on 2007-11-20 and HP is working on it. I think they really take this seriously.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
I find your suggestion that HP are taking this seriously very humerous.
I've had the issue escalated as far as I can and the only response I've received is that I shouldn't apply the update.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
did you run into the same issue on your server(s)?
On our site it is the model DL380G4.
Do you get the same or similar error message at the
array controller firmware POST?
The server mainboard revision with the error is
in my case 0T
An other server (delivered the same time, but has
still the "original" mainboard) works fine with
2.80 but has mainboard revision 0M.
Would be interesting what the situation on your server is.
Kind Regards,
Roland

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
As per my post December 6, we had the exact same issue with our server.
I'm not sure exactly which motherboard revision we have at this point.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
was available from HP site but the link is now dead.
You can try and use the link below to FTP site:

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
status now here is: HP Technicians have tested the issue on site...
a) Error persist with complete different set of drives.
b) Error persists with new mainboards (revision 0T, AP)
c) Error only with firmware 2.80; firmware 2.76 is fine.
One server with systemboard revision 0M is ok with SA firmware 2.80
(all disks having firmware revision HPB4).
The server failing with SA firmware 2.80 has disks with
mixed firmware revisions (HPB5, HPB6, HPB8).
@Lunja: Are you quite sure about this drive firmware dependancy?
The firmware of the drives here is up2date with the firmware
provided by HP FirmwareMaintenanceCD V7.90!

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
I ran into the same issue and worst of all, it appears that after the firmware upgrade, the array controller would not recognized the last 2 bays on the server ( 6 bay dl380 g4 server ). also, it would not rebuilt the raid ( raid 5 ) as I replaced the faulty drive because it would not recognized the new repplaced drive until I rebooted the server, then after I rebooted the server, the invalid scsi id error would display, but the disk array utility would not see the error and it claimed that the raid 5 had already rebuilt properly. then after a second reboot, Windows 2003 would run a chkdsk on the raid-5 logical drive and it would corrupt the data. This occured on 2 different dl380 G4 servers I had upgraded the firmware to 2.80 b

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
I encounter the identical behavor here.
I also lost the servers data after I bootet into the OS (Linux) running 2.80 firmware with the two drives missing (filesystem heavily corrupted after that??)
The Case on HP Support is still open.
Until now there was 4 times HP Technicans here to investigate the issue.
They tried to find a kind of workaround from this firmware bug, without success.
Do have the Revision Number of the failed servers motherboards. On my site there are some revisions(the older ones) working fine with 2.80.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
Please check the label of parts number of 6port scsi backplane.
411023-001 RoHS
359253-001 No-RoHS
The symptom came to go out when I exchanged it from 359253-001 to 411023-001.

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
the revsion number of the board can be retreived only on the motherboard itself.
You have to open the server case and find it on the right side, near the back, where the Smart Array Controller is located.
I do not know how to retreive it via a software tool (the hp technican told me it can't).

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
Converting to Simplex mode (i.e. taking off the terminator and moving the second ribbon from the motherboard to take its place) made the error go away without losing the array or data.
Hence, I suspect the problem rests with duplex SCSI...has anyone seen the error on a simplex-configured box?

Re: Smart Array 6i Controller FW V2.80 Error 1734: Incorrect SCSI ID
The solution is to update the Array Controller firmware to version 2.84 or later.
HP has a fix located at http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=453210&docId=emr_na-c01541246&docLocale=en_US
