Smart Array P440ar add a second raid
hi everyone,
installed:
server: ProLiant DL360 Gen9
controller: Smart Array P440ar
Firmware Version 3.56
4 HDD raid 10
Model EG0600JETKA
Media Type HDD
Capacity 558 GB
The server has esxi 6 installed
I need to expand the space on the esxi storage
our store sells disks
HDD HPE/1.2TB SAS 12G Mission Critical 10K SFF BC 3-year Warranty Multi Vendor HDD
P28586-B21 part number
I plan to buy two disks
question:
1) can we install them in our server, make another raid 1 from 1.2 TB HDD?
2) will the esxi storage see this new raid 1

I can't see why not; ESXI will see the new raid under "datastore" and you'll need to configure it accordingly, assigning space and/or folders.

The P440ar supports up to 8 physical links, so there shouldn't be any problem adding another 2 disks. Also, to my knowledge, the P440ar can be used to create multiple RAID arrays for different disks. So yes, you can configure distinct arrays using different groups of drives on the same controller, though - just to be clear - you cannot mix SAS and SATA drives within the same array.
Hope this helps.

Re: Smart Array P440ar add a second raid
thanks for the answer
can I ask another question?
in the documentation for my server I found that disks up to 2.4TB are supported by the controller.
https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/c04346229.pdf
page 24
suppliers offered us to supply 2.4TB drives at once
81457-B21 HPE 2.4TB SAS 12G Mission Critical 10K SFF SC 3-year Warranty 512e Multi Vendor HDD
but I read on the forum that there is a speed problem with them
for example:
Slow Speed on HPE HDD SAS SC 12 G 2.4 TB
I ask for your recommendation, it is better to buy drives 1.2T 4 pieces and make raid 1+0, or buy 2.4TB disks and make raid 1
I need to expand the storage to 2.4TB
thanks!
