SmartArray 6i ? Linux? Kernel Patch

Does anyone use SmartArray 6i in Linux environment that is not Suse or Redhat ?

When you install a typical distro it recognizes the controller as Smart Array 5i, does this
affect performance of the raid array ?

Also how could you monitor the stability and the battery status in Linux?
