symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

I have just received and configured 4 DL380 G3 servers with the onboard NC7781 Gigabit ethernet interfaces. I have downloaded the ODI drivers for this network card but can not seem to get them to work. I am using a ghost boot disk which runs a Windows 98 DOS shell and works with all other cards we currently have from Compaq (the new HP) Any ideas on how to get this card to work correctly? The error message I keep receiving tells me that the card is not installed in the PCI slot.

Thanks much

Dave

Which drivers are you attempting to use? Are you using the Q57.dos driver?

I was going to try those but ghost would not load them as a possible driver, so I had to go with the n1000.dos driver. Should I attempt the q57 driver again?

The Q57.dos driver is the correct driver.

Cool. And, I just got ghost to accept the driver so hopefully it will be happy!

Thanks much!

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

Dave,

I've just received the same servers and want to do the same thing -- ghost the dl380 g3's -- how is that working for you?

If at all possible, can you zip up and send me the disk image (without the ghost executable, I can purchase that)? That would be much appreciated.

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

I too am having similar trouble, but with DL580 G2 servers and NC7770 Gigabit adapters.

If I use the q57.dos driver, I am unable to use the NET command to map a network share.

Hi,
If you have 2 Onboard Nics and try to use the q57 driver, disable one nic and all work fine.

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

I have gotten the boot floppy to work but can not get the speed/duplex to kick in since the create image will not go above 20M, often falling back to 10M or 11M. If you would like a copy of the boot disk (no ghost software so there should be no issues anyone can scream about) I can try to zip up an image and send it to you. At the very least I could send you the files in the directory structure. My email is dgraham@oag.com.

Thanks much to all who have helped!

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

Has anybody figured out to set the speed and duplex option for these in either a NDIS format (DOS boot diskette for connecting to MS server) or VLM (DOS boot diskette for connecting to a NW server)? I have servers now with this same NIC but it keeps going to 100 half duplex and the speed is terrible. Cannot ghost them. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am having trouble locating the q57.dos drivers so I can ghost my 380 g3's. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

David

I've just downloaded the DOS Q57 drivers - they're in SP23497.

I'm having similar problems to those described above - I can't get the DOS network boot disk to work.

I've tried disabling the second port of the NC7781, ensuring I have a DOS 6.22 boot disk (difficult to find these days!), created a fresh NDIS client disk (using the above driver).

As soon I get to tinyrfc.exe in the autoexec.bat, I get an error stating that there's insufficient memory to load. The MS KB article indicates it's due to buffer settings (Q97501) but I'm still stumped as this doesn't seem to apply (settings are less than 22)

Anyone able to offer any help ?

Thanks

Re: symantec Ghost and DL380 G3

Unfortunately I have not used a boot disk with tinyrfc as a driver. The version of ghost that we are using to build the floppies still builds the disk to use NetBIOS instead of TCP/IP. That being said, we were getting that exact error message when running the new version of ghost after booting from the disk on some servers. The new version of ghost (can't remember a version number off the top of my head) supports XP and what-not. But, it was having trouble with some of the servers. On a whim I ran the previous version (which I believe is version 6) of ghost.exe and the server was able to ghost. The new version appears to suck up more resources.

This is also one of the only reasons we still have NetBIOS enabled, so on of my next steps is to change the disks over to TCP/IP. At least now I know there will be some gotchas!

Good luck. Hope this helps. If not, I will be working on the disk in August (low on the project list) so I may know more then.
