System Hangs When HDD Activity Increases

System Hangs When HDD Activity Increases, mainly when we start a backup. System locks up hard, no response from keyboard video is many times blank, but sometimes not. System has also hung when there was no backup being done, and when the backup accelerator agent was disabled. Have also disabled SMS Client, and McAfee virus protection drivers and still encountered system hang.

Have made sure the BIOS is updated to P11 11/8/2000.
Have applied MS Hot-Fix for scsiport.sys driver issues.
Have applied the latest Compaq service pack for W2K bundle BP000061
Have had Microsoft help with attempting to get a crash dump with no success, no drive activity possible when the system locks hard.

HI, Sugg to run the diagnostic on the backup drive. Now if the system hang while not backing up. Is it something else? If left in the f10 the bios does it hang only when in the OS; this might rule out the hardware and you might think more software driver issues. Hope this will help
