Take the entire controller offline

Hi,

I have a DL560 with a pair of P441 controllers (in addition to the on-board controller) which each have their own drive array. These arrays are rarely used as they have snapshots of the system volumes. I'm using RHEL 8 on the server, and currently the only option I've found is to dismount the volume, give it a few minutes (wite cache is disabled anyway) then power down the drive array. This of course makes the server freak out, but it doesn't seem to cause any issues, except when it comes to reboot, at which point it, won't.

I've looked through the administrators guide, and I can't see any ssacli command to take the controller offline or even the volume offline, which is what I need to do. If anyone has any idea's I'd really appreciate it.

You may consider disabling the PCIe device to meet your needs. You may refer to section "Enabling or disabling a PCI device" in the UEFI System Utilities User Guide for HPE ProLiant Gen9 Servers and HPE Synergy for the steps to do so.

I can do that at boot, but I can't do that whilst RHEL is running, afaik. I've tried bind/unbinding the adapter but that has no effect. I'm not that worried about RHEL, it handles the loss of a volume without any issue, its the IML/ILO that freaks out.

I'm surprised there's no obvious way to have offline storage, but, to be fair this is the first time I've had drive arrays that are powered down when not in use.
