Text garbled when updating firmware with Smart Update Firmware DVD (9.20)
Proliant D380G5
I'm trying to do online firmware updates with Smart Update Firmware DVD (9.20) on RHEL 5.5 and when I click on Firmware Update, then "Install Firmware", I can see that HP Smart Update Manager pops up, but I can't see the text, it is all squares (garbled).
It worked on one server, but on the other two I tried didn't work. I'm pretty sure it's just lacking one or two packages, because the servers that "don't work" have been installed with a very minimal set of packages.
If someone has an idea, please let me know.
BTW, it would be a good idea to have a package dependency check done by this DVD, when run online.
Thanks,

Re: Text garbled when updating firmware with Smart Update Firmware DVD (9.20)
I don't know what packages would cause such behavior however a workaround you can try is to run it from a terminal with the parameters --silent --On_failed_dependency:Omit_component ... that should run the update in the background without any GUI... the second parameter is recommended in case a firmware update fails, so that it continues to the next one. Finally check the log on /var/hp/log/ to find what was updated.
