Trouble booting Proliant ml 310 "scsi bios not installed"

Well my problem is that my company purchased 2 SATA disks & controller (Sil 3112 Raid PCI Card), we want to use it in mirror set for storage, bootable disks are SCSI's which are connected on-board controller. Every time i get message that "SCSI bios not installed" while SATA disks are connected, and OS can't boot up. Going to F9 (Boot order, doesn't solve the problem),because the order is fine, the first device is scsi on-board controller, soon as i disconnect SATA's, bios is installed & server is booting up. What can i do? Please help.

Typical Options:
1. Verify Latest Firmware for all Components
2. Verify Options from Optional ROM of Controller
3. Swap to different PCI Slot
4. Disable Controller that is not in use from BIOS
5. Use different Controller

Hi,

The Sil 3112 will have BIOS enabled and the mirrored SATA disks will be seen as the first boot disk when the system POSTS. This will then make your SCSI disks the secondary disks, i.e. non bootable.

Since I assume you only want the SATA disks as storage in the Operating System and not as the boot disks, it should be possible to go into the setup for the Sil 3112 (CTRL-S I think) and disable the boot BIOS for this card. In that way only the SCSI disks will be bootable as they will be the primary disks.

If the Sil 3112 is unable to have it's BIOS disabled you will continue to have this problem unfortunately. Sometimes the PCI slot position makes a difference in Proliants as the scan order for the PCI bus slots may "see" the Sil 3112 first or second depending on it being a primary, secondary or tertiary PCI slot.

Try moving the card first then looking at the BIOS settings.

There doesn't appear to be a user guide for the Sil 3112 on the Silicon Image web site.
