Unassigned array drives after power failure - recovery possible?

Hello,

We have a DL60 Gen9 server with two SSDs for OS and two HDDs for data. After a power failure to the room, the server does not find a boot target. Upon entering Intelligent Provisioning and querieing the status of the attached B140i controller, it shows all four drives as "unassigned".

Is there a way to assignt hese drives to their respective RAIDs without initialising them? The users tell me that they have not backed up their data...

Of course I'd rather get the server to run again, but will rebuild the server if if I must., Alas, the data from the striped set of HDD would be nice to recover...

Many thanks!
Ulrich

Re: Unassigned array drives after power failure - recovery possible?

Thank you for those links, I had read several HP documents about RAID controllers but not seen the specific one for this model.

I read the User Guide a few times to be sure not to miss anything (which I may still have done...) and the only place where I found reference to re-assigning drives which were already in arrays before was in the section "Moving hard drives and arrays" on page 20. I do get a warning when I boot  - because none of the four drives are recognised as "assigned" but I do not get anyt POST errors as described.

The SSA gives me a clean health for the controller. But all it allows me to do is to assign the drives to an array... and then it wants to stripe them. I presume that this would wipe the data currently stored on the disks?

I am still hoping to find a way to suggest to the controller that these disks are friendly and that it might accept them as they are?

P.S. The link to the SSA manual in that User Guide fails. I did find a version online, not sure if it is the most appropriate one for this set-up.

I am still looking through the other links you provided, thanks again!
I will report back once I have been through those.

Many thanks!
