URGENT URGENT

Is it possible to get the server serial no's remotely? I am not running insight manager and as it is for over 100 servers I do not want to have to install software on all of them. This is very URGENT and I would appreciate any help.

Re: URGENT URGENT

You don't have to run Insight Manager on all the servers--just the Insight *agents*...you can install those remotely if need be, but unless you specifically didn't load them, they should be already there...then it's just a matter of putting insight manager on a single console (read: workstation/desktop/portable) and doing either an autodiscovery or by entering the server names and using WINS/DNS. The actual Insight Manager application only has to be running on a single console...

The serial number is normally stored in the system BIOS, so you have to use a Compaq utility to access the information. You can either use Compaq Insight Manager, the Compaq Survey Utility, or the Compaq System Configuration Program, to access BIOS information. To access the BIOS remotely, some kind of network server agent must be installed on the system. So you would have to install the Insight Manager agent software.

The other way is to just create an ASCII text file on the system that has the information you want in it about the server, then access the file over the network. You can use the Compaq diagnostics to create a Survey report on the system, which has all of the hardware configuration information about the system. Then you could access this report at any time remotely.
