VUM and HPE VIBS Depot not Working

I have searched the HPE communities and Google for a while now. I see people with the same issue as me - VUM and HPE VIBS Depot are not working. I have read the stuff on the top of the VIBS Depot site - http://vibsdepot.hpe.com/ . Things just don’t make sense. If you look at the locations this site suggests to use, there are no INDEX.XML files.

How is VUM supposed to get HPE specific updates for VMware anymore?

Re: VUM and HPE VIBS Depot not Working

Hi David,
Here more light on your issue is needed.
1) What is the purpose to access the Vibsdepot or goal of the post here ?
2) Specify the detail about the server, its components, VMware appliance, its version etc.
3) Are you facing in accessing the vibsdepot site, downloading something, or while installation after a download ?
4) What is the error hitting while carrying out the procedure ?
Regards,

@shiva_jr

Answers to your questions:

1) What is the purpose to access the Vibsdepot or goal of the post here?

I have had our vCenter Update Manager configured to use the HPE vibdepot(s) for many years. It was configured to install HPE specific software and drivers on my HPE hosts. Somewhere, after the release ESXi v7, the HPE vibdepot(s) stopped supplying updates. I read on the site that after VMware removed ESXi v7U1 and v7U2 from their downloads, HPE removed everything ESXi v7 from the vibdepot(s).

2) Specify the detail about the server, its components, VMware appliance, its version etc.

https://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index.xml and https://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index-drv.xml are configured in vCenter/LifeCycle Manager/Settings/Patch Setup

I am using VMware vCenter server v7U3 21477706 and ESXi host(s) v7U3 21686933.

3) Are you facing in accessing the vibsdepot site, downloading something, or while installation after a download ?

I have had the sites listed above as additions to the patch downloads in vCenter Update Manager for 10+ years. They can no longer connect and obviously are not yielding any HPE specific updates.

4) What is the error hitting while carrying out the procedure ?

As of today, using the entries above, I receive the following:

The download source https://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index.xml is invalid or cannot be reached now.

The download source https://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index-drv.xml is invalid or cannot be reached now.

Re: VUM and HPE VIBS Depot not Working

Hi @David Claussen

Vmware update manager is being deprecated in Vcentre 7 and is being replaced by Vmware lifecycle manager which includes all of the drivers etc with the vendor addon.

Vmware Update manager will not be available in Vsphere 8 so I would suggest getting up to speed with single image withing vmware lifecycle manager. The patching is cluster based so can be tailored to hardware and doesn't require creating new baselines with new releases just changing the image and vendor addon.

@AndrewR2 I will have to look into the images as you say. What threw me off is that the Dell vib depost is still wokring on a vCneter 7 server in the Lifecycle manager.
