What is the point of stackable modular risers (e.g. in DL345 gen11) ?
Hello all,
we just bought a DL345 gen11 server for a project poc and (at least coming from DL380/385 /v2p gen10 etc.) I never got in contact with the stackable riser solutions for the PCIe bus.
I must say I was suprised to say at least. Really fiddly handling and seemingly too many unnecassary screws in different sizes. And a rather "cheap" feeling to it. Is there a killer advantage or use case I am not aware of? Please enlighten me. I really did miss the "old school full" solid riser boards.
For anyone who wants to know what I am talking about:
Best regards

Re: What is the point of stackable modular risers (e.g. in DL345 gen11) ?
Hello,
The stacking riser enables the installation of extra PCIe cards, which can be utilized for a range of purposes, such as adding storage controllers, networking cards, or GPUs. This enhances the server's overall expandability. Designed for seamless integration with other HPE components like GPUs, accelerators, and network cards, HPE's stacking riser ensures all components function together efficiently for optimal performance. Instead of investing in multiple servers or larger chassis, stacking risers enable businesses to create high-density configurations with a more cost-effective initial investment
Cheers...
