Which version of the firmware maintenance cd do I have installed?

Is there any way of finding out which version of the firmware maintenance CD (now rebadged "HP Smart Update Firmware DVD") I have installed on my server?

I've taken over a box from someone who has left the company and need to understand which CD/DVD he used to update it.

I know the CD is just a collection of patches delivered by HPSUM but surely there's a way of finding out which 'standard' patch set has been delivered??

There is no way to find out this, and there is no need to know this.

Download the latest HP Smart Update Firmware DVD 9.20 and run the update.

I don't know any way of kowing wich FW bundle has been used.

The FW CD/DVD is a colloction of latest FW/BIOS.
But all can be downloaded and upgraded seperately.

What you can do is.
Find out witvh versions that is installed
Then check against www.hp.com/support
Download drivers and FW for your server(s)

You can use the System management home page
or run insight diagnostics, use the survey.

If you have a lot of servers, HPSIM is you best friend.

If you want to know wich PSP (Product support pack), the go to the control panel
find the insight agents, open them and checkout the versions.
The PSP ver numbers follow the insight agents package version numbers.
But also these can be downloaded and installed seperately.
Again if you have a lot of servers, HPSIM is your freind.

Re: Which version of the firmware maintenance cd do I have installed?

Like others stated, there is no way to determine what hardware firmware disk was used. The firmware of the hardware is OS independent and does not follow the OS (or you could have no OS installed for that matter).
You could insert the firmware disc you have and run it to see if all the firmware is up to date according to that disc but the better way would be to use the vcagent if installed (https://server:2381/vcagent) or like stated, do a survey and compare to what is on that disk.

Re: Which version of the firmware maintenance cd do I have installed?

Like others already said, you cannot be sure.

Let's say firmware disc A has a firmware 123; then you can add manually the newer firmware release 456 to it. So you used the firmware update utility from disc A; but the firmware you added is added later to the official firmware disc B and so on ...

A good example is iLO firmware, there are several new releases between the official firmware DVD releases, so I usually create an USB thumb drive and add newer firmware to it. So "my" firmware DVD version 9.20 for example is maybe much more up to date than your version 9.20 ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Which version of the firmware maintenance cd do I have installed?

Just a little correction to FMash.
The fw is os independent.
But the packages, that you use for installation is os dependent.

And as Torsten write fw is released between FW DVD's.
You can pretty much have a new FW released on the same day as the DVD.

Now that you have to cleanup some one else's mess, I will recommend, that you document your changes / or your current status, if you don't make any changes.
