Windows Server 2012 setup on a 6TB RAID 5 Partition?

Hi

I´d like to install Windows Server 2012 std. or Windows Server 2008 R2 on an DL380p Gen8 server with a RAID 5 partition (8 x 1TB disks).

Windows creates one partition (in my case 100GB for System), another 2 TB partition and a 4 TB partition, which I can´t use.

Do I have some special settings to configure in ACU?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Peter

Re: Windows Server 2012 setup on a 6TB RAID 5 Partition?

Hi Peter.

The psysical Controller and controller settings do not have a bearing on what windows can see in this case.

Using MBR, the maximum usable partition size is 2TB per physical disk, no matter how many partitons you create, only 2TB of this is visible to the Operating system.

Since Windows sees the 8TB RAID 5 array as a "single disk", and has been partitoned to 2TB for OS / data and there is 4TB you cannot use, it's a reasonable assumption that you are using MBR to partition the disk.

Perhaps this will help:
