Adding second processor to LC2000

We have a LC2000 with a 1ghz P111 and would like to add a second processor. I can't seem to find anything on this site that tells me what I need to order. We have the technical expertise to install it we just need to know what to order.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Adding second processor to LC2000

Hi,

You want to order the CPU upgrade kit (P2488a). The kit should include 1 PIII 1Ghz processor (133Mhz FSB.256KB Cache s1)and a VRM (voltage regulator module). If you need to buy the two parts separatly, the CPU part number is P2488-63001 and the VRM is P1756-63006. They have the kit at Paramount (www.pmount.com) for purchase, and I'm sure that it would be cheaper than you can get right from HP.

One consideration: If you installed your OS (Microsoft) with only one CPU, it would have automatically chosen the HAL for a single processor. Once you put in the new CPU, you will have to change this HAL as the OS won't recognize the 2nd processor. I think you might have to reinstall the OS in this case, but I would contact Microsoft to see if there is a work around.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Re: Adding second processor to LC2000

Is it possible to upgrade the speed too? I realize that 2 would have to be purchased in that case, but could a 600 go to an 800 (or is there a hard wired limit to speed). How high can it go?

Obviously, also, I couldn't jump to a P4 or from a non-slot one processor...

Thanks...

Thanks...

Yes, it is possible to upgrade the speed too. I am assuming Robert, that you are referring to the same server? You have to use HP authorized processors for the server, which are Pentium III / 133Mhz FSB/256kb Cache S1. You can get 866MHz, 933MHz and 1Ghz processors for this server. Keep in mind that you will have to change some speed settings on the system board if you upgrade the processor speed. here are the switch settings on the system board:

533 600 667 733 800 866 933 1000 1033
1 on on on on off off off off off
2 off off off off on on on on off
3 on on off off on on off off on
4 on off on off on off on off on

P.S. If you need some part numbers etc, just let me know.

Re: Adding second processor to LC2000

Currently I own a LC2000 P3 600 My friend is selling me his LH6000 it has Dual 700 Xeons and 9 18 scsi HD which can be swapped into the LC2000 followed by the Ram. Now the CPU is 700mhz Xeons and i know it doesnt fit the support list of the LC2000. Only reason for not wanting to use the LH6000 is because it's power hungry 1168 Watts when running. Thats a bit too much. Would it be possible to reduce that power usage. Remove 2 of the 3 power supplies and just use. I would Prefer to have the LH6000 but its 1 far too big and uses too much electricity.
So it crossed my mind what if i swapped the mother board into the LC2000 case would it be possible for it to boot up.
