HP GEN 10 Microserver - Drive fail, hot swap, rebuild without data loss.

Howdy folks.  I am unable to find any info anywhere on this.

I have the HP Gen10 Microserver with 4 - 2TB Drives in a raid 10.   My question is that "when" a drive fails, am I able to hot swap a new drive out on the fly, or do I have to into the raid software and rebuild it and if so, will it destroy my data?

Sorry if this has been asked.  I cant find any info anywhere on the internet about this.  I want to be prepaired before this happens whenever it happens.

Thanks!

Barney

I assume your 4 x 2TB Drives are Non-Hot Plug drives.
HPE does not recommend swapping a new "Non-Hot Plug drives" on the fly. This step can cuase the RAID to crash.

Re: HP GEN 10 Microserver - Drive fail, hot swap, rebuild without data loss.

Thanks for the reply.  I appreciate your links but it still doesnt tell me how I am to rebuild the raid when a hard drive fails.    I have some NAS systems that use these same drives that I am able to just pull the bad drive and put in a new one and it rebuilds it.  I realize this is a different system all the way around.  So I am unaware of any hard drives that are hot plug as I thought it was always up to the system they are going in, not the drive itself.  As for SATA drives anyway.

I just need to know, "when" one of my 2TB SATA 3.5 drives die, do I just pop one back in and it rebuilds?  Or do I have to reboot the system into the raid configuration software, rebuild the raid itself?  But I dont want to lose any data is my absolute main concern.  Im fully aware of raid crashings, Im trying to avoid that and figure out how to replace an HD without losing my raid/data.

Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon. :)

The SATA controller for the Gen10 is Marvell based.
In case of "Non hot plug drive" failure do not swap the drive while the server is in production.

Refer Page 7 (To rebuild a degraded virtual disk) which will guide you how to proceed.

Thanks so much!  That will help when it comes time to replace a drive.
