LH4 - blinking red light on front of box?

So maybe one of you all has a clue about this, cuz I'm stuck. I've got a netserver LH4 and on the front of the server, next to the LCD status screen there's three LED's. The top one is blinking red. The others are dark. I've been through all the stuff on the LCD status menus (event log, etc) and the PDf manual on HP's website (which just says that as of the writing, the lights weren't active at all) and all over the web. I have no idea at all what this red light means. The server seems to be running fine. Anyone have any experience with this?

There is something that has gone wrong in the server. There is nothing reported in the Event log? Have you checked back several days? Have you updated or even rebooted the server? I would also suggest trying to clear the CMOS. Here is a link to the LH4 page with BIOS update:

Re: LH4 - blinking red light on front of box?

Actually, that's kinda what made me laugh about this - the manual basically says 'the blinking red light is bad'. :) yeah, i went back weeks in the event log with nothing that I can see standing out as a problem is there's one event log item, number 00205 from what i can tell, that says "??2.5V, under-voltage: 1.52V". Since that's the only one with any negative connotation, maybe that's the problem? What's that mean?

Anyway, thanks very much for the link to the drivers page. Im gonna try that BIOS update too.

If the BIOS is out of date, it more than likely means nothing, I would also clear the Event log just to be safe, this will also allow you to see what new events are added. The error means the VRM detected an undervoltage on the processor. If it only happens once, it is more than likely not an issue.

Also, look on the back of the server and verify that each of the power supplies have green lights.

Justin - were you able to resolve this by updating the BIOS? I'm seeing the same issue.

Thanks!

Re: LH4 - blinking red light on front of box?

Christy -

Actually, my problem turned out to be a fauly VRM unit. HP Support diagnosed that I had bad one because the only error I had in the event log was a voltage problem. HP sent me a new one (four, actually) and I replaced all four of them inside my server, and it fixed the problem. I updated the BIOS as well, but it was the new VRM's that fixed the blinking light. So I'd give HP Support a buzz and they can probably get you some new hardware if you need it, or let you know what else you need to do.

Please let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

I'll take another look for a similar report in the logs. Thanks so much for your quick response.
