Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

I tried the USB approach but as someone has already mentioned its the time and cost involved, as there was no usb floppy available and to save time we have done an unattended install.

Not sure why anyone would shy away from this, after all we are all here to make money and time is money.

For a quick and easy unattended install download http://www.nliteos.com/ nlite, choose your source disk, choose unattended and select the additional drivers, point to the RAID drivers and click build. then all you need to do is burn the resulting ISO to disk, pop it in the server and hey presto.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

I just had the exact same issue. The ML110 G3 came with 2 x 80gb drives which I wanted to mirror. So I ran the mirror process and had it build from the OS disk. However once built the pre installed OS would not load as it kept rebooting after showing the Windows Server 2003 splash screen for about 1 minute.

So I then booted off the install CD only to have the problem as described in this link.

I ran down the local computer shop where I purchased a Toshiba PA3109U-1FDD, I am not sure if it is USB 2.0 but I suspect it is.

Anyway it all worked fine , the system came with the latest BIOS at the time of writing this. The BIOS detected it and even tried to boot off it.

So I recomend this as a solution to this issue.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

The experience of install the raid controller without a floppy:

1. enter the bios and setup the usb option to FDD mode(force the USB HDD to floppy).

2. connect a USB THUMB disk(128M) contains the driver of raid to the ML110 G3.

3. Press f6 when window setup prompted, then press 's' , you can found the driver now.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

Hi all.

Just wrecked my head for the last 2 days trying to get this to work on a DL320 G4. I managed to fix the problem by using a demo of iLO to create a virtual floppy drive to my floppy drive that had the driver disk in it. This worked a treat. Hopw this helps any one else.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

I tried everything aside from actually purchasing the USB floppy drive recommended by HP...I refuse to do that! These drivers should've been slipstreamed into the original cd's !

Slipstreaming the drivers into a new installation disk is exactly what I had to do.

Follow these instructions to get the drivers Slipstreamed onto your HDD. You can also use nLite, which was suggested above by Chris Harrison UK. It's very easy to use.

http://www.maximumpc.com/2005/01/how_to_slipstre.html

Okay, those instructions and nLite were great to get the slipstreamed cd copied to my local HDD but creating the bootable cd is where I got stuck.

When I got to the cd burning portion it was impossible to get any burning software to create a bootable cd that would actually work properly. After several hours, 25+ CDR's and every burning software I could download from the internet I finally bit the bullet and purchased Nero 7. It's about the same price as a USB Floppy but will actually have a use after this install. The instructions from the link above created a boot disk that gave me an error reading:

cannot boot from cd code 4

I then followed the instructions from this link to get a burn that actually booted.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

After a second attempt to set up this server and going through all the pain AGAIN I would like to encourage readers to purchase the external ext HP FDD.

The slipstreaming option may work but as was pointed out in the previous post, it's not just the slipstreaming but also creating the bootable CD.

If you're looking for a technical challenge and you have the time, go ahead and slipstream. If you have to do this regularly just get the ext HP FDD!

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

Thank You to adrian (above) Slipstreaming drivers to the 1st CD of Windows 2003 is the solution.

IT REALLY WORKS no USB pens no USB floppy.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

We used the slip streaming method to create our CD. Unfortunately the drivers supplied by HP on the CD were not correct and we ended up with the blue screen of death at thepoint the server rebooted and tried to load up.

We are burning CDs with new drivers and trying toget past the driver issue. We found a post saying there are two different versions oSATA raid built into the G3, one labled as HP raid but adaptec based underneath and the other labled as an adaptec raid system. It is a known issue there are driver issues with the supplied CDs for the ML 110.

At present our option is to turn our box into a non-raid device, load the OS, back up the OS using QT Parted live CD and then play it back onto the newly created raid.

Be warened, after creating the raid make sure you have run the tool from bios to synch the drives as we loaded an image onto one raid drive using QT Parted nad had huge problems until we got the RAID tool to synch the drives. It doesn't alwayds happen automagically. If the Device volume status states it is anything but OPTIMAL then make sure you synch the disks using the tool to do so.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

Please, if you are reading this for the FIRST time, STOP, go and get an HP ext FDD and save yourself the time and frustration invloved in setting up a slipstreamed bootable CD.

On the drivers, it is good practise to check for and download any new BIOS and/or drivers when installing a new mobo these days. Things just change too quickly.

Re: ML110 G3 - load RAID driver without floppy

nLite integrated CD is the way to go! This worked for the same issue on a HP DL 320p G5. FYI, there is no option to set a USB as a bootable floppy in the BIOS for this model, as was listed above on this and other threads. When using a 3d party external USB floppy drive with the Adaptec drivers loaded on it, the OS setup would take the drivers for the Adaptec embedded RAID at the first prompt, but would reprompt for the drivers on the A: drive halfway through the OS install and would not pick up the driver again. (seemed to have lost all connection to the A: drive or somehow could not connect to the driver again.)

Embedding the driver and creating a custom OS install ISO (to then make a bootable CD from via Roxio or other CD burning software) using nLite was very easy to do and worked fantastic. Don't waste your time on floppy disks, bootable USB floppys, editing the BIOS, or attaching internal floppy drives. Time is money and this saves both!

Way to bring up a 3 year old thread lol! But yeah, these days nLite is the way to go.
