Netserver E60 wont boot

Hi,

I just picked up a netserver e60 and am having trouble with it. It POSTS but it seems to freeze at the scsi bios detecting screen. The numlock still responds, but the server never continues. I cant get into the bios because it stops at the scsi bios. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried different ram, hds, and processors.

Re: Netserver E60 wont boot

Hi David,

If you posted the Last message you got (At the point where it hangs on POST) it would have been better

However, you can start with clearing the configuration back to its factory default setting as follows

1. Turn off power of Server and remove the cover and the cooling duct/cover
2. Flip switch 4 on the system board (labeled "Clear Configuration") from OFF to the ON position
3. Turn on power to NetServer
A message displays indicating that the configuration has been cleared
4. Turn off power of Server
5. Flip switch 4 (on the system board) back to the OFF position
6. Replace the cooling duct/cover and the cover
7. Turn on power to the Server
The message Incorrect PC Configuration Option ROM error is displayed
8. Press F2 to get in to the BIOS Setup
9. Make any configuration changes that are required (this is applicable if you only have a Custom Setting before. If not go to the next step)
10. Press F10 to save tthe configuration and Exit Setup

If this resolve the Issue good otherwise

1. Try to flash the BIOS to the latest (which is 4.06.26 PN), if server have an old BIOS, Latest BIOS can be downloaded from this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=18330&prodSeriesId=45937&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=ns1765&locBasepartNum=ns1765en&os=Cross+OS&tech=BIOS
You need one formatted floppy disk for this
A. Download the file
B. Doublclick the downloaded file and follow the on screen instruction to creat a bootable floppy out of it
C. Boot the server from the floppy diskett
D. Follow the on screen instruction
5. When it rebooted the next time get to the BIOS by pressing F2, and then Save and exit By pressing F10

If you still do not get a resolution, you have to come back wuith the exact error message you got at the point it hangs (or stops responding)

Re: Netserver E60 wont boot

Hi,

Thanks for the help, it gets a little further but not much. It detects the drives, then the last message that comes up is "system configuration data updates successfully" and it freezes dead there. theres no error messages. I tried going into the scsi bios and setitng them to defaults but had no luck.

Re: Netserver E60 wont boot

Hi David,

Have you done the things I listed in my previous post step by step?

If you have donw and did ot get any result

1. Strip down the server to base configuration (which means 1 processor, 1 memory stick, disconnect any PCI card connected in to the system, if any,)
2. try to boot the server and see if it is going to complete POSTing

If that is going to help again,

disconnect the cdrom, the floopy drive, and the hard drive(s) and try to boot again

If server boots fine put back each part you disconnected one by one so that you can find out what causes the server to hang at POST

Re: Netserver E60 wont boot

Hi,

I tried everything, it still hangs up at the scsi bios, i tried it with nothing attached except a monitor and a keyboard, even tried it ouside the case. I tried disabling everything in the scsi bios, but still nothing.
