Proliant ML330 933mhz OS issues
Hello,
I have a used Proliant ML330 Server that I'm trying to install Windows 2000 Pro as the OS. I have tried to do so with the Smartstart CDs without much luck. How can the OS be loaded the most easy way. I know it had asked for SCSI drivers, etc and I'm not sure of what setps to take.
Thanks,
Chuck

Re: Proliant ML330 933mhz OS issues
As I sure you have noticed Win2k Pro is not supported on the ML 330. So using the Smart Start(SS) cd for is assisted install will not work. That does not mean the SS cd will be useless. First boot to the SS cd and run a system clear. On the next reboot enter the ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) by press F9 when prompted during POST. In RBSU make sure to set your NOS selection to Windows 2000. Once is done you are ready to start your install.
Reboot the machine to the Window 2000 pro cd. When prompted press F6 to install a third party disk driver. After a bunch of loading files screens go by you will then get a welcome to setup screen. Press enter to begin setup. Next press to specify a driver. You will them be prompted to enter a vendors disk. This disk you can get by downloading the Windows 2000 server drivers for your SCSI controller at:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17320.html
After adding this driver you should be able to continue on with install as normal.
Hope this helps!

Re: Proliant ML330 933mhz OS issues
Andrew, first of all, thank you very much for your response to my ongoing saga with this computer and Win2KPro. I have tried similar steps that you proposed (through trial/error/research), except for the part of changing the RBSU to select Win2000 as the OS. I inserted the floppy with the updated SCSI driver for Win2000 (when prompted), but then it ends with the message "The file txtsetup.oem could not be found. Press any key to continue." at the next screen.
I have researched the HP Forum site for "txtsetup.oem" and I'm still stumped about what type of file this is. If you have further insight on this matter, I would greatly appreciate your help...
Regards,
Chuck

Re: Proliant ML330 933mhz OS issues
Chuck,
Basically, the txtsetup.oem is a file that MS operating systems uses to tell it where to find files on a drivers disk. The normally sits in the root directory of any driver disk that can be used duiring a install.
Maybe you did not get the disk created correctly. I extracted the contents of this driver download this morning and their is a txtsetup.oem file. You need to download cp003193.exe to your HDD then extract the file out onto a floppy. These are the file that will be on the floppy:
TXTSETUP.OEM
README.txt
install.xml
generic.dll
FLOPPY.BAT
cpqsetup.exe
CPQ32FS2.sys
CPQ32FS2.inf
cpq32fs2.bat
cp003193.xml
