Can't run System Config on Proliant DL380/G2

I have two Proliant DL380/G2s that were configured with SmartStart 5.20. I now want to change the hardware configuration, but it won't let me do it. I can boot from the system partition, but when I select "configure hardware" the server just reboots itself. I've 'updated' the system partition several times to no effect. This also happens if I try to run sysconfig from floppy. I've updated the system BIOS as well as the firmware on the Smart Array 5i - also with no effect. I even wiped NVRAM. I'm faced with doing a full system erase - not something I'm looking forward to.

Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks,
Doug Black

Yes, seen it with ML370 G2. It happens because these platforms do not officially support the SCU(system config utility) anymore because they have the new RBSU. Which is probably what it boots to if you let it reboot and don't press any key? The RBSU performs the same task. So why load the SCU then during smartstart 5.2 - Ask Compaq.

I have the same problem with a ML530 G2.
What to do?

All,

When you install DL/ML-G2/3 servers with a Smartstart version below 6.00, it will still create a System Configuration partition but without the SCU! The only tools really installed are Diagnostics and Inspect.

You'll need to configure these 'new' servers with the built-in Rom Based Setup Utility (RBSU) by pressing F8 during boot, it works great and faster than SCU.
A Proliant a day keeps the competition away!
