CIM & Micromuse NetCool

I am trying to inetgrate Micrmomuse NetCool with Compaq Insight Manager. In order to get device status information, I was thinking about directly querying the CIM database.

Is there any documentation on how status is saved in the different tables? It looks like the OverallStatus field corresponds to the HW status field on the web interface. Is this correct? Are there any caveats or gotchas about querying this database directly?

Any help at all is appreciated.

Re: CIM & Micromuse NetCool

I think I answered some of my questions when I found the Technical Reference Guide. Sorry for jumping the gun on my post.

Does anyone have any advice for querying these tables directly?

You might also find this document useful: "Using ProLiant Management Agents with Open Source Monitoring Tools" at http://activeanswers.compaq.com/aa_downloads/6/100/225/1/52488.pdf. It doesn't deal specifically with NetCool, but has some useful information that you could possibly apply.

Re: CIM & Micromuse NetCool

Ryan or David,

In reference to your comments on this subject, we cannot find much information on sending traps to NetCool and are in a bind over that. Can you give us some help, Please! Also - David- I've tried the link you enclosed and it appears to be a dead end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: CIM & Micromuse NetCool

I ended up decding to directly query the CIM database for the "OverallStatus" field after having not much success with getting traps out of CIM.

Re: CIM & Micromuse NetCool

Thanks Ryan

We are going to try and use NNM instead of NetCool now.

If the link doesn't appear to work, find the doc by going to www.hp.com/linux then choose 'ProLiant' then 'Information Library' and the name of the doc.
