Compaq Insight Manager 7.0

Howdy - I am using Compaq Insight Manager to monitor our servers and am having trouble setting up the Notification options. The requirement is to enter the name or IP address or your SMTP server. My problem is that our SMTP server is not on-site and is located on a different network. I want to know how to get Insight Manager to send messages directly to my Exhange server. Any help would be appreciated.

That the SMTP server is located on another network should not matter. Als long as the IM7 server can reach it (telnet to port 25) and if you configured the email options correctly (both the SMTP servername and email address), your emails should arrive fine.

Gert - I dont know what an IM7 server is, but, on my LAN the exhange server forwards all out going emails to an access unit that connects "us" to a SMTP server. I can ping the SMTP server but Telnet port 23 is blocked by a firewall. I have reviewed the help file many times and been looking on line like mad for help. I was using CIM verson 4 just fine a while back...dont know what has changed.

Disregard last statement on IM7...you'd think I'd know that one by now...Insight Manager 7 .....wow...long day.

Not port 23, port 25 (SMTP). If you can telnet to port 25 from your IM7 server, it should be able to reach the SMTP server just fine.
Port 23 is usually blocked on Firewalls / Routers.

Well...I am able to telnet through port 25 to the SMTP server and am doing some more testing now.
