Event ID 1010

Any news from Microsoft on this problem? I am running a Proliant ML350. The registry setting for the performance counter was set to 1. I have changed this to 0 but have not rebooted. Someone spoke of disabling something in the HP monitoring software. I could not find any compaq monitoring software to play with. Any suggestions? I am hoping the registry key does not change back to 1 after the reboot. Thanks.

Re: Event ID 1010

On another ML350, I have disabled the Compac NIC Agents service and the events 1010 stopped. I am also looking for a resultion to thsi problem. Did you get any 1015 events?

Re: Event ID 1010

Any resolution to the problem?? I have four DL380 G3's with the Similar problems
The Collect Procedure for the "Tcpip" service in DLL "C:\WINNT\system32\Perfctrs.dll" generated an exception or returned an invalid status. Performance data returned by counter DLL will be not be returned in Perf Data Block. Exception or status code returned is data DWORD 0. However I also get errors from W3SVC,ASP,Inetinfo and ftp counters. If you look in the performance monitor IP and TCP counters are missing from the list.

This is very frustrating

Re: Event ID 1010

I have the same problem on various servers, and would like to get it resolved as well. Apparently SP4 address' the issue. If you're like me, you won't be applying SP4 for a little while until it has become proven. There is a Pre-SP4 HF available that address' the problem as well, but you have to contact MS Technical support to receive it. If anyone knows of a better place to get it, can you let us know.

Re: Event ID 1010

I received the hotfix from MS by calling support. However, it does not fix the problem on any of the machines I tried including a DL360 and DL380.

Anyone brave enough to try SP4 to see if the issue is resolved?

Re: Event ID 1010

Jeff,

I still see Event ID 1010s under SP4.

I'm applying some fixes as per MS Knowledge Base Article 267831 for similar Event ID 2003s.

On some Servers herre the Event ID 1010 and 2003 are triggered at the same time.
Fixing one "might" have an impact on the other. It's all a bit of a mystery!

Re: Event ID 1010

Microsoft has a hotfix Q819716 which is supposed to fix the problem. I have only tried it on one system without success.
When I went through all our servers we can see that this only happens when you are using a gigabit adapter (NC77XX)
Anyone else with the same prob?

Re: Event ID 1010

Martin, if you look back a couple of posts you will see someone else's comment on the MS hotfix, and they also said it had no effect on their servers. You may have a point about the NC77xx NIC's though. I have been looking through all of my servers, and the servers with the NC77xx nics throw a lot more events then the others, although the others have similar perlib errors as well. Any of our servers that don't have the broadcom integrated gig nic (NC77xx) have a compaq PCI fiber gig nic installed, and do have fewer perfib errors. I would like to get rid of all these errors though. They are a real pain, and on some of my servers are pushing any useful data right out of the event logs.

As an aside, anyone notice that you can not run perfmon against the compaq NIC's? The NIC doesn't appear in the list of metrics you can measure. (At least with the NC77xx and the NC6136 Nics). Maybe that's why we get these errors? No entry points for the performance data built into the drivers?

Thanks for you comment on SP4 Rob, I was kind of thinking I might have to apply that service pack to try and get rid of this, but if you say it has no effect, I won't worry about it.

Looks like we are still scratching our heads here. Anyone from HP had a serious look at whats going on?

Re: Event ID 1010

Most of mine are with a DL360 and the NC3163 NIC...so it's happening on more than just the gigabit adapters. It's definitely an HP issue though, since it's not happening on 2 other vendors systems at the same OS/SP level.

Re: Event ID 1010

Experiences here do NOT back up Doug.

All Servers showing varying amounts of Perlib Event ID 1010 Errors are:
DL360 G2s, DL360 G3s and DL380 G3s. All these have the NC7780 NICs.

We have several DL380 G2s, which have the NC3163s, they do not seem to generate the Event ID 1010 Errors.

We're running the majority of these at 100MB / Full Duplex, some are set to 1GB.

We have installed an NC7131 into a DL580, that is NOT generating any Perflib Errors.

Any comments from HP?

Re: Event ID 1010

I was trying to get the absolute latest information on this before posting, but it is taking too long (the key engineer is on vacation.)

In any event - would everybody seeing this problem please log a case with HP Support on the issue? That way when the solution is found you can find out quickly.

I will post here (and in the other thread with the similar name) as soon as I get any more information on the topic.

Re: Event ID 1010

I've got 12 DL360G1's all with W2K SP3 and latest 6.40 Support Pack.. ALL of them are reporting the 1010 errors. I get about 30 events/day which isn't too bad. However if I turn ON performance counters for TCPIP, I have thousands of events in the matter of 10 minutes. DL380 G1's do the same thing with the onboard card. This definitely started after the 6.0 Support Pack since the event logs were clean with 6.0 prior to upgrading to 6.40.

Re: Event ID 1010

Hey,

I was having this problem on a DL380 coupled with an other warning just before the error it's event id was 2003 I found a solution to this and this has stopped the error for me.

Hope it helps....

If during the installation of Windows 2000, you:

- Have Setup format at FAT or FAT32 boot drive

- Have Setup install IIS in the same process

opening System Monitor to add counters will generate an Event Id in the Application log similar to:

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\w3ctrs.dll"
for the "W3SVC" service does not match the trusted performance library information
stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\infoctrs.dll"
for the "InetInfo" service does not match the trusted performance library information
stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\aspperf.dll"
for the "ASP" service does not match the trusted performance library information
stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.
This problem doesn't happen if you had chosen NTFS, or installed IIS later.
To resolve the problem:

1. Open a CMD prompt.

2. Type the following commands:

cd /d %SystemRoot%\System32
unlodctr w3svc
unlodctr asp
unlodctr inetinfo
lodctr w3ctrs.ini
lodctr axperf.ini
lodctr infoctrs.ini

Here is the link for the page I found this.

Again this is for event id 2003.

Re: Event ID 1010

Goto Control Panel --> HP/Compaq agents and remove the performance pience from there. Restart the agents. I was getting 1008 and 1000 but it stopped those.

Re: Event ID 1010

I to am using the HP DL380 Servers. I notice that whenever I start to get these messages the server looses connectivity or responds really sluggishly (about once ever 4 months). Has anyone else seen these symptoms. I'm going to try the tech note from MS 819716 and see if that helps at all.

Do you have that info available yet? We are seeing this one too but it's not a big enough deal to us to justify opening an incident at this stage :)

You would not believe how much work it is taking to nail this down. We have so far identified a possible work-around and we're still verifying it. I expect to publish that this week.

Re: Event ID 1010

I am experiencing the same problem on a HP TC2120 running SBS 2000 with gigabit 7760 NIC. The frequency of these event is impacting the performance of the server. I will be very interested to find the resolution to this event?

Re: Event ID 1010

Yes, Scott, thanks for addressing this issue. I have several Compaq servers in my data center that are having this same problem. We will anxiously await your work-around/fix. I hope it is different from using the Extensible Counter List tool that comes with the resource kit. Disabling diskperf and other performance tools does not appear to fix the problem on the servers here. Thanks!!

Re: Event ID 1010

I've the same problem with my DL380, DL380 G2 & DL380 G3. With the old DL380 the fix from Microsoft helps.
For the G3 I made the change in the registry and the error disappeared from the event log. BUT the performance is still very bad.
I use my G3├в s as terminal servers, and several times a day the servers almost stall (same time as the time stamp from the 1010 event). A real catastrophe for me and all of my users. It must be a problem with some HP/Compaq drivers. If I downgrade the same configuration onto a EVO 510 or d530, I have a pretty good performance and NO hangers.

Anybody had problems with terminal servers on DL380 G3├в s ?

Maybe I should set up a server farm of EVOs instea

Re: Event ID 1010

We have the Event ID 1010 as well. Seems they are working on it.

Lars, what OS and SP do you have on those G3's. There is reports of Win2k Terminal Servers locking up/performance problems, etc. after installing SP4. Whether you are running Citrix or not, check this link out, it has a link to MS SP hotfixes.
