How to stop floods of OLD alerts, when reconfiguring email notificatin tasks?

When I reconfigure an "event" tied to an email notification task (such as adding a new IP address), it triggers a flood of OLD alerts related to that email task.

Also, when I changed the smtp configuration in our Insight Manager to point to a new DNS name (since we decommissioned the email server it had been pointing to) -- this triggered a flood of EVERY alert (thousands of them).

This essentially brought our alert system to a halt for over 30 minutes.

How can changes be made to email notification tasks and their associated "events" so that this does NOT occur?

i had the same issue and is a known concern. The fix is to download and install HP SIM 4.2 SP1.

i had too many other issues with V7.0 and wound up installing HP SIM v4.1 and upgrading to 4.2 SP1. The newest version works a lot smottehr than 7 ever did. I would also seriously look at uninstalling 7 first and then installing 4.2. I did the upgrade instead and then had to fix a bunch of other issues afterward. Besides, HP is dropping support of IM7 anyway if they haven't already done so.

The only other option might be to delete the notification task and then recreate it.
