HP Systems Insight Manager released!

HP Systems Insight Manager has gone gold master and is working its way to posting on the web, hopefully as early as tomorrow, 12/19/03. Check the main management page at http://www.hp.com/servers/manage and click on the HP SIM link for up-to-date info and download details.

Accordingly, a new forum dedicated to HP Systems Insight Manager has been opened at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=455 to help with questions and issues.

On another note, Proliant Support Pack 7.0 is also available.

Re: HP Systems Insight Manager released!

I noticed support pack 7 yesterday. The bit I really like is the release date! :)

Can I borrow the HP time machine some time?

Stutz:

It's posted for download at the "HP Software Depot" (http://www.software.hp.com/) -- when you complete the registration the link to download is in fact an ftp link.

Too bad no HPIM7 conversion tool yet. Its sitting "on the shelf" for me until that is released.

Nelson:

Good IT practice and HP's recommendation is to run hpSIM in parallel with IM7 before attempting to make a conversion. Familiarity with hpSIM before converting will make your transition all the easier. The data migration utility is scheduled to be out before the end of 1Q04, just about the time we expect most people will be comfortable enough to turn off their IM7 systems.

Yes, our preference would have been simultaneous availability, but it just didn't work out that way.

Re: HP Systems Insight Manager released!

Thanks for the info.

Can I run HPSIM and HPIM7 on the same server at the same time? Will they co-exist?

Thanks

No, they need to be run on separate systems.

Re: HP Systems Insight Manager released!

Thanks.

Will I be able to "capture my settings and entries", uninstall HPIM7, install HPSIM, and then import my stuff. Or do I need both machines up at the same time to migrate off of the old and on to the new.

Sorry if I am jumping ahead here...

Thanks

Re: HP Systems Insight Manager released!

Indeed Nelson that in fact will be supported - you will be able to upgrade a system in place OR migrate your settings from an IM7 system to an HPSIM system (either on the same box or different systems.)

However, if you do as your suggesting you'll lose your IM7 certificate - only an in-place upgrade will maintain that. This is only important if you've propogated the IM7 cert to the managed devices when using the Trust by Certificate option.
Dude, we've been totally misled by our album covers!
