IM7 management server running at 100% for a few days.

Hello,

For the last 3 days, my IM7 management server has been running at 100% of CPU usage. I have tried to reboot the server, stop and start IM7 and SQL server services, but nothing works. The server is a Proliant DL380 G1 with 1GB of memory. The server is running Windows Server 2000 with SP2, MSDE 1.0 with SP4. When I look at the task manager, the one process that's constantly running 98% or 99% is the sqlservr.exe. What could cause this process to run so high for the last three days?

Thanks,
Phong

Hi,

if the problems consists after you stopped IM7, this could be a SQL-Server related problem, so maybe you better search in MS-Knowledgebase: http://support.microsoft.com
But first, ugrade to Win2K SP4 (just released)

By the way, did you start th server with sql-service set to "disabled" and IM7 set to "disabled"? Then checked for free harddisk space, run checkdisk and so on? Looked for locked Processes in SQL-Server?

When you installed SP4 to your MSDE, did you follow the instructions? See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/servicepacks/SQL/7.0/sp4ReadMe.asp

Re: IM7 management server running at 100% for a few days.

The CPU usage would drop after I stopped IM7. I will take a look at MS-Knowledgebase and upgrade to Win2k SP4.

Both sql-service and IM7 were "enabled" when I started the server. I do have diskeeper running on the server, and the the server have plenty of disk space. How do I look for locked processes in SQL-Server? By the way, this server is IM7 dedicated server along with MSDE.

Yes, I did follow the instructions when installing MSDE SP4.
