Insight Manager Messages
We have IM 7 SP2 installed and I am having issues with messages being sent via email and pagers. Some of my devices send messages with the subsystem causing the problem. Others just send a message "Device Status Change" and the severity level. I initally thought the problem was agents and I upgraded to the latest and I am still getting the less insightful (pardon the pun) messages. Any thoughts?

Re: Insight Manager Messages
The only way I've found to tailor the message to your requirements is to use the Application Launch feature.
I tend to use perl, IM passes a number of variables to the script it's going to run, you can use these to create a message of your choice and then send that. I've used that as the replacement for a number of messages because I found the original format a bit verbose.

Re: Insight Manager Messages
It all depends how you did the setup of the notification task(s). You can base your task on a device status-driven query or on an event-driven query or both but then you'll probably end up with more alerts then you want.
Easiest way maybe is to
1) create a query that results in devices being shown which are not in status normal of informational.
2) based on this query create a notification task to alert you whenever a new device meets the query criteria (i.e. not a normal status).
Of course you'll have to logon to IM7 to figure out what's going on in detail but I guess you would have done this anyway.
Rgds, Gert.
