Integrating Dell Servers

Has anyone managed integrating Dell servers into insight manager. I'm now about to look at this and would welcome any pointers etc

Hi Nick, I don't know if you have an answer to this yet, as this message is fairly old (I was looking for an answer to something else myself!!) We are trying to do the same thing here. I was talking to a Dell systems guy and he said that they will never have full integration, but remember you can still have Insight Manager handle SNMP events by installing the appropriate Dell MIB files on Insight Manager (available from the Dell web site). That way, it will at least process the SNMP message and give you notifications. Dell also has an application called IT Assistant, which is supposed to be like Insight Manager, but the product still seems pretty immature compared to IM.

The problem with - what the hell, it's a Dell - their servers and management is, that they are using SNMP v2 MIBs while Compaq/HP is using SNMP v1 MIBs.
This means that CIM7 can only import MIBs v1.

Good luck in getting them from Dell, my advise is to migrate to HP servers :-)

Here is what I have found out, we had to set our SNMP communities and trap info on the Dells and install the OpenManage Server Administrator. Attached is a link to a Dell white paper about doing this.
