Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

PMP 2.0.4 problems

I installed PMP 2.0.4 on the same server hosting Insight Manager 7 SP2. From the licensing and administration page I see the server is monitored with Monitor, Log & Alert mode; sample rate is 120 seconds and the number of samples is 5.
Performance Analyzer shows alla data and all subsystems are operating normally, but when I run Data Extractor it says there's no logged data in the DB. See the attachment for error details. In the last 24 hours nothing has been written into the DB. Do I have to wait some more time before data is written?
TIA.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

It does take some time before anything is written to the database. You will not see any data right after or within a few minutes of installation. I waited until the next day and did not have any issues.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

Thanks for your fast reply, Jadrice.
The service is running from yesterday afternoon (about 16:00), and in 24 hours it has written nothing into the DB. From SQL Profiler I can see that application "Performance Management Pack" only makes SELECT tasks on the DB, I saw no INSERT at all.
I'm not a SQL expert, so I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

In the adminsitration page where it shows you the discovered and licensed servers, did you check the server boxes and clicked on start selected?

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

try changing the sampling rate down to 60 seconds. this will terminate the monitoring session and start a new one. wait for a couple minutes, then on INsight run the SNMP polling task for servers. then try to run the data extrator again. The database entries should be there now.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

Hi Jadrice.
I've done what you said, but the problem is the same. PMP does not write into the DB. The only tables with some data are "discovered servers" and "licensed servers".
I think I'm going to uninstall, delete the DB and the data source, and then try again.
It's driving me crazy!!!
Thanks for your advices.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

OK, try to uninstall and reinstalling it. I would recommend making a backup copy of the database before you delete it. I think it is created durig the INsight Manager installation.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

PMP doesn't write into the IM7 db (if that is what you are checking). IM7 gathers data during data collection and stores it in the db. PMP then checks the IM7 db and retrieves some information and it also gathers some info from its own db to render the web pages.

Re: PMP 2.0.4 problems

I also noticed that PMP writes to a different database (I'm sure that there's a good reason for not keeping it simple and more tightly integrated with CIM ...)

On that note, does any one have the schema for the PPM database so that we can run custom reports against it.

Also I noticed an earler thread on not being able to reset the default thresholds on the PMP, has a feature been added to allow this yet?
