Polling status change event problems

I saw this question and it applies perfectly to my problem.
"still having with the server down alerts. Is there any way of convincing the box to produce an alert with something more descriptive than "Polling status change". The old "Device Not Responding" just worked better. Seeing a load of Critical Events reflecting only polling status changes doesn't seem that helpful to me."
