i have an Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 Environment
with nearly 320 ProLiant Servers.
On some Servers we have the effect, that they will not be found bei Insight Manager Automatic Discovery. If we add them manually,
the appear in the Query " All Servers", but the Insight Manager does not recognize the Product Name.
We checked the SNMP Settings, they are okay we think. Server searches for Machines with public, an the Servers, which should be managed, are configured as follows:
community: public
trapdestination: 127.0.0.1
d100scim ( cim server)
send authentication trap activated,
public + read-create
All machines are available via ping....
The survey and the System Management Homepages are working fine on these Machines.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance

Re: Unknown SNMP Device
Hi,
sending a Test-Trap results in:
"The following trap has been sent: Compaq Management Agents Test Trap sent
The Machines, which we cannot display correctly in Insight Manager are all Windows NT 4.0 Server SP6a with same snmp Configuration.

Re: Unknown SNMP Device
After you did the Send Test trap...did you look under All Events in IM 7 to make sure it received the trap? It should show up as a "Generic Trap received" type event.
However I do see in your original post that you are using the DNS name of the IM 7 server. As a test...try using the IP address in place of d100scim if the trap didn't show up under IM 7.
As a side note...HP agents only need Read\Write vs. Read\Create rights with SNMP. In fact ...for simple discovery and hardware status...IM 7 just needs access to a read only string. For more advanced SNMP commands...Read Write will do the trick.

Re: Unknown SNMP Device
i´ve checked, if the SNMP-Test Trap appears in the "All Events"-View - it doesn´t!
I´ve checked the System Management Hompeage, and I wonder that even the System Management Homepage is unable to identify the Model ( see attachment).
I don´t know why!
Help!!!

SolutionIn the other discussion I made a check list:
1. CIM7 server is up and running and configured properly i.e. community strings.
2. CIM7 server can reach managed server on port 161 (to read) and managed server can reach CIM7 server on port 162 (to send traps)
3. SNMP service on managed server is up and running and configured properly i.e. community strings.
4. SNMP service accepts connections from external hosts.
Is it all Ok ?
As for your attached picture, it looks like SNMP service is running on a local system, but probably HP Agents are not installed properly. I would recommend to reinstall the agents, better if the latest version 7.0.

Re: Unknown SNMP Device
it works!! The System is now fully recognized
by CIM7.
I made an update of the hole PSP, including the Agents.
The, i started the CIM Daily Device Identification Task!
I do not have to reboot the Server, starting the Services works too.....
Thanks for your time!
