Upgrade MSDE 1.0 to SQL 7.0 for IM7

I was made aware that with MSDE, IM7 can only manage up to 500 devices. Does anyone know whether that is the case? and whether I can upgrade MSDE 1.0 to SQL 7.0?

You can definitely upgrade to SQL 7 without a problem. Just export your database, import to SQL7, change ODBC connection with username password, and connection string to SQL database. Then change the database connection info inside the IM console itself. There is a limit in MSDE, but I'm not sure if it's 500.

Yes, the "limit" with MSDE is about 500 devices (from a support standpoint). MSDE is a free db from microsoft and the performance degrades as more transactions occur, db sizes grow, etc. The recommended limit is 500 devices with MSDE, and 5000 devices running under Microsoft SQL Server.

You can definitely upgrade from MSDE 1.0 to SQL7; however, make sure you apply the latest SQL7/MSDE1.0 Service Pack before upgrading. There is a requirement of having at least SP1 applied to upgrade (bug in MSDE). If you upgrade to SP1, might as well "go all the way" to SP4 and get more fixes.
