Version Control Agent

I've just setup an Update software task which is basically going to update the management agents and the VCA. Everytime the task runs I get the follwoing message in the Event log.'Version Control agent is not available', yet if I connect to the box through CIM7 I can see the VCA and see that the software is out of date because it's querying the repository on the CIM7 server... Anyone have an ideas why this is occuring, the VCA is running on the target machine.
