Win2K Cluster recognition

Win2K Cluster recognition

I've got two DL580s in an active/active cluster running Win2K AS and SQL2000 Enterprise. Insight Manager recognises the cluster, but rather than recognising it as "ClusterName" with nodes Node1 and Node2, it detects a cluster named Node1, with a single node, Node2. Hence, EX shows Node1's IP address as being the cluster's IP address, and doesn't show the cluster's virtual IP address at all.

Anybody had this problem?

Cheers,

Jon

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

Did you have CIM XE discover the virtual IP? That is the most likely cause of this problem.

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

Scott, I have CIM XE autodiscovering all IP devices, including the cluster's virtual IP address. Should I add this manually?

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

You shouldn't have to. Are the cluster management agents all running properly on the cluster nodes? That would be the next place to check. Make sure there aren't any error messages in the eventlog.

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

Scott, I get the following error on node1:- "The Compaq Foundation Agents service could not start agent "CPQCLUS". Event ID 267. Any ideas?

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

Well, that explains the problem. We need to find the CPQCLUS agent running to be able to manage the cluster. As for why it can't start, I'm not sure. Does that agent log any events in the eventlog that might help? Have you tried installing the latest (4.9) agents and seeing if that fixes the issues?

I wish I could more helpful than "install the latest" but it's hard to diagnose these sorts of thing in a forum.

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

Hi, We came into similar situations with both Win2k Clustering and NLB....

Can someone confirm if we should or should not auto discover the virtual IP address... Thanks !!

Re: Win2K Cluster recognition

I would uninstall and reinstall the agent set. For some reason the registry isn't setup right and this is the best way to get it back in shape.
