iLO event alert alarm

On my newer servers, when there is an issue with the server the iLO also shows an alarm or alert in SIM 5 sp1. iLO fw is 1.91.

Is this a new feature or a bug?

If iLO is configured to deliver SNMP alerts to SIM, it is possible that both the server agents and iLO are delivering alerts, showing up as "doubles". Check the iLO settings.

My iLO settings are the default:

Enable SNMP Pass-thru Yes
Enable p-Class Alert Forwarding No

What would be the optimal settings?

From those configuration settings, it does not look as if the issue is double-alerts.

What kind of alert information is being displayed in HP-SIM?

When SIM shows a minor server event (yellow triangle), the associated lights out board will also show the same yellow triangle.

That's being caused by SNMP Pass-Through. When HP SIM queries the iLO interface using SNMP, it's getting the status from the Insight agent on the host.

So, if the agents are running on the OS, the snmp pass thru option in iLO should be turned off, correct?

It depends on what you want the MP icon to reflect. If there is an interruption in the network between your HP SIM CMS and the host server, the HW icon will show critical. If there is a separate and intact path between the CMS and the iLO, the MP icon can reflect a degraded status if in fact there is a problem that needs attention.

If you turn SNMP passthrough off, then you'll almost always see a green icon for the MP link unless iLO can't respond to a ping for whatever reason. That isn't always what you want reflected if the server is having problems.
