iLO, status of fans, temperature and LED indicators

Hello all

Is it possible to see the temperature of the server and status of the fans with iLO? Is it also possible to see ALL the LED indicators in iLO, not just the UID light? I have upgraded iLO to the latest one (1.75), but can't find this information in it. I'm using a ML370 server.

Hi,

how about using the Management Agents for the server? These run on the OS itself. I don't think there's a way to view server temperature or LED status via the iLO. Why do you need the status of all LEDs? If you use the agents, when something goes wrong with the server, it should show up on the System Management Homepage, or Insight Manager if you're using it.

Today, there is not a method to get this type of information from iLO. The System Management Agents suggested by Stephen is the only available method.

first of all thanks for the fast response.

Well if you have a firewall between the server and you, you can't always use HP System insight manager. It's easier just to connect to iLO and see all the information there. Also, you only need a web browser to see the information. With insight manager you have to have a MS SQL database and a lot of other "crap" installed :(

ProLiant servers have 1 or more temperature sensors calibrated to the individual conditions of the component they are protecting, proximity to that component and the airflow past that point. Examining the actual temperature is not useful and you also cannot infer ambient temperature from that.

With the Health Driver installed (part of the ProLiant Support Pack) any overtemp condition or fan failure will be written to the Integrated Management Log kept in NVRAM. You can examine the IML through iLO.

Using the System Management Homepage (Insight agents) you can have it deliver alerts through a MAPI-compliant email system. Alternatively or in combination, the agents can send SNMP traps. If there is a firewall between you and the system (but not you and iLO), iLO can forward those traps to you through its connection.

Also, HP SIM does not require MS SQL Server. For medium-sized networks of 500 devices or less, the included Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) is used. It is free, supported (unlike most open source alternatives) and there is a large user community experienced with it.
