I support a number of remote servers throughout the country. I connect to these servers through a firewall and then onto a terminal server where i can then use RDC or Terminal Server client to support.
I can also connect to the servers via ILO and can use virtual cd and diskette.
The servers are running Windows 2000 or 20003
My question is :
Can i somehow upgrade the HDD firmware on the remote servers without visiting the sites ? I cannot insert a CD in the terminal server as it is 200 miles from the office.

Solution
There's a number of ways to do it. You can create the ROM update floppy, the use the virtual floppy on the ILO to boot it. You might find it useful to create an image of the diskette, as it will be faster that readinf off of a physical floppy.
You can also use the SmartStart Firmware maintenance CD. Here you'll have a couple of options, you can use the virtual CD capability in the ILO GUI, or you can use the ILO scripting utilities and an XML file to load a ISO of the firmware CD off of a web or FTP server. This might be useful as you're doing this over the WAN.
The firmware CD is available for download from http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/smartstart/ss-agreement.html
Information on scripting the ILO is available at http://h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00294268/c00294268.pdf

Re: Upgrade HDD Firmware Via ILO
Much appreciated for this information. I will download the software and give it a try on a test machine with a view to live implementation next weekend
