7.40 agents and Symantec Antivirus problems....

I have installed the 7.40 agents on about 5 servers with Symantec Antivirus Corp Edition 9.0 and am now getting errors every time I log into the server that the system cannot find msvcp70.dll and msvcr70.dll. Appears that HP 7.40 Agents overwrite these files and thus breaks Symantec Antivirus. NOT GOOD. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks Igor, I did a search on those DLL's but it didn't show up. Hopefully this is fixed in the next PSP release. Can anyone confirm that it will be fixed? The previous thread does not mention it.

Doug, I see nobody from HP didn't answer this question. Maybe if you will open new thread with subject something like "For David Claypool: PSP 7.40 and Symantec problem" you will get answer from David or another HP peoples.
I think HP peoples just missing this question because they see "bunny" icon near the question.

Re: 7.40 agents and Symantec Antivirus problems....

Although, I never received a response on if this would be fixed in the next version, it is my understanding that this is actually a problem with the removal of the Insight Diagnostic Agent included with version 7.30.

That being the case, this issue may never be resolved by any of the next versions of the PSP, as the same removal will take place.

It would take some extra coding on HPs part to look and see if those DLLs are removed during the PSP install process, and then put them back. I really don't think we'll see that happen.

Why not ? - this is a genuine problem to anyone using HP servers and SAV 9 - not an uncommon scenario.
At the moment I cannot roll out PSP 7.40 to any server beyond those I use for testing as it wrecks SAV, which then has to be reinstalled to get it to work again.
If HP's removal of the diagnostic tool from the PSP removes DLL's used by another application then they had better fix it.

Re: 7.40 agents and Symantec Antivirus problems....

I feel your pain, as I'm in the same boat. My procedure so far has to been to install PSP 7.40 on servers, without the Insight Diagnostic Agents. This works fine, but I can only wonder how many more PSP's I will be going through where I will have to not install that component. At some point I'll have to bite the bullet, and do it, and then copy those DLLs from another server.

I too wish there was a fix for this, but HP's last response led me to beleive we were stuck. Not good news.

Re: 7.40 agents and Symantec Antivirus problems....

Few more!! after installing psp 7.40 (upgrade from 7.10) following are not working as expected:
- Symantec Brightmail Antispam - some issues with java at worker process
- Symantec Mail Security for Domino - stopped mail scanning - instead it holds all mail in mail.box

what a mess I have here now ...

Ug, same issues here.

Yes it is common to use SAV 9.x

Problem is how do I test pushing the support pack without the offending piece now that I've already pushed to DEV and broke those machines. And my system management homepages and vc agent page are also broke on those boxes.

Now what!

Re: 7.40 agents and Symantec Antivirus problems....

Ok, the 7.30 Diags uninstall issue should not have broken your SMh and VCA setup. If you just installed SS7.40 and SMH does not appear to be workng you may be running into an issue where the SMH is not properly binding to all the IP addresses. If this is the issue then this thread talks about ways to address that particular issue (not the diags issue):
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=970723

There is was a new SMH release post SS7.40 to correct the IP binding problem - it can be downloaded here:

Hi,

HP has finally referenced the issue here:

Document ID: c00578151 - Advisory: Some Software Applications May Fail to Start on ProLiant Servers After Upgrading Insight Diagnostics Online Edition for Windows from Version 7.0.1 to Version 7.4.0
