Automatic Event Handling Won't Fire based on server roles or contacts

I'm trying to get emails to fire when events happen on servers that do NOT contain the word "mail" in the server role field. (Since we manage all servers other than exchange servers).

This is not working. I tried the same thing with the contact field -- it also doesn't work.

If I simply leave it as all servers -- don't put in the definition to exclude server roles or contacts with "mail" -- it works.

So what is going on here? Any ideas?

By the way, I'm using HPSIM 5.0.

Also, here is the definition for the task I set up (the problem is under "systems"):

View Definition: All Events on all Servers -- excluding mail
Task name: All Events on all Servers -- excluding mail
Events:
event type is not Deployment Events
event type is not Security Events
event type is not Systems Insight Manager Events and type name is Discovered System
event type is not Task Events
severity is Critical
severity is Informational
severity is Major
severity is Minor
severity is Normal
severity is Warning

Systems:
server role is does not contain mail
------------------------

If I use a "server role" or "contact" definition for "systems" - the event won't work.

Note that I do get a list of these systems when I created a list based on "server role" not containing "mail".
