cant see power supplies they show as ?

Hi All,
I have a issue see the power supplies in my blade enclosure , they keep showing up as a "?". i have upgraded to SP 4 running Wins 2003 Server. I have upgraded all the ilo firmware to 2.20 on the blades. Any ideas?

Is the management bus connected correctly? If you view the p-Class tab in an iLO on one of the blades in the rack, does it show the power supplies?

yes i can see the power supplies in the ilo. I can see the power supplies showing up as unknown but they are blank.

For viewing Power enclosures correctly, you need:
-HPSIM 5 SP3 or 4 (you have that)
-Management Firmware 2.20 or later (you have that too)
-Insight Management MIB update kit for HP Systems Insight Manager for Windows

When installing HPSIM, you get the MIB set from Support Pack 7.30 (or even 7.20?). I am not sure whether the latest HPSIM installation sets include the 7.40 MIBs, but I guess not.

You can download the MIB pack from the same site as where you can find the ordinary drivers.
Please use the README, for you have to enter some commands before it starts; its not just clicking around.

After the next Discovery your Power Modules will show up. The Power Enclosure status will however still be (?).

I have tried re-dicovering all the blades but the power supplies are still shown as unknown. I installled the mibs successfully but the power supplies are still shown as "unknown"??

If you cannot even see the power modules in ILO, I would recommend checking the cabling between the enclosures. ILO is quite low-level; the Power modules should show up there.

You would have needed the MIB-pack anyway.

Hi,
I can see all my power supplies bays and information on the ilo. Do you need to download the enclosure firmware to 2.20. I am thinking that i may need to do this next. Everything else seems to be uptodate. HP Sim is at 5.0. I have downloaded support pack 4, server ilo firmware is at 2.0???

The other strange thing is on "rack view" i only see one empty ps , in "all enclosures" both ps are there. See attachment

Any ideas?

Weird, the picture in your last posting.
If you would be running HPSIM 5 pre SP3, you would have to see the correct settings for your blade enclosure. The power enclosure would show up with all blue (?). HPSIM5 SP3 and 4 would show the contents of the power enclosures, but the status of the power enclosure itself would still be a blue (?).

If you can see all enclosures correctly in ILO, that would suggest the hardware is connected correctly.

You might give it a try to upgrade ALL enclosure firmwares to version 2.30, which is available since december 2005.
Download the CPQRMM230.BIN to the leftmost server in your enclosure.
Run from that server "HP System Tools", "HP Proliant BL Rack Upgrade Utility", and upgrade all enclosures in one flush.

Check if you have installed the latest Support Pack (7.40) on the leftmost server in your blade enclosure. This is used to identify all blade and enclosure components.

Probably an new Discovery is required for all components to show up correctly in Rack View, but you might give it a try without doing so.

the issue that i am seeing is that when i go into the ilo homepage and look at the power bay i see the firmware at 1.70 and hp sim tells me i need it at 1.80 or highter.

This is what i am at at the moment Server
Blade and Power Management Module Firmware Cpqrmm230.bin (ver 2.30)

ILO firmware - 1.80

Chassis firmware - 2.30

Install Support pack 4 (update 7.40A)

However i have not rebooted the rack, i am thinking that i may need to power cycle the rack for the power bays to pick up the new firmare version???

My Power Supply Enclosure has firmware v2.30.
The Power Supply Units got firmware 1.70, and show up correctly.

HP recommends updating your ILO-boards to firmware 1.82, as this version includes major bugfixes. It's the ILO-board of the leftmost blade server that reads out the Management Modules of all Enclosures.

Every iLO has equal access to the infrastructure. There's no dependency on any specific location.
