Cisco mibs and Insight Manager 4.2
Does anyone know what needs to be done to configure IM to take traps from the Cisco routers in the right format?

Re: Cisco mibs and Insight Manager 4.2
I do not have a version of IM7 running and will try this from memory. Go to the option tab Tools and expand SNP Extensions. Next select MIB Registration. The list of mibs installed are shown is the registered mibs lit control box. If the cisco mib was properly installed, you should see it here. Select the mib in question and then hit the button at the bottom, Edit Registered MIB. This will bring you to Edit Trap page. Using the name dropdown list, select the trap in question. If it displays correctly, the mib is registered into the db. This was the first prerequisite.
Now go to the Settings tab and make sure the ip address from where the trap is coming from is not excluded. This is on the automatic discovery page. When I am trying to ensure the reception of a trap I always disable Discovery Filters as not all devices are recognised until the discovery is enabled for that type of device. Now you should see all traps without filtering.
Next, the device that sends the trap needs to be discovered. In the discovery protocols, select SNMP Trap Auto-Discovery. If the device is not discovered the trap will be discarded. If you run a All Device query, you should see the system in question.
In the Protocol Settings under Server in the settings page, one should see Enable SNMP checkmarked. If not, check it and apply.
In the Settings tab, select server->Event Filtering and check all the event severities and the Accept Unregistered Events. I suspect this is already select as the linkup/linkdown are not recognised but are seen. If these traps are coming from the router, I suspect the router is sending traps and important traps are not being recognised.
If all this is set as described, we will need to go to the next step. The next step will be to capture all the data as received or via a sniffer of some sort to look at the on wire data. There is a free protocol analyzer called Ethereal I have used which could be beneficial. Or, there are trap receivers available to get the trap data. I would want to know the values of all the fields in the trap that is not being seen. This would also apply to the Linkup/Linkdown. Sometimes, some devices do no fill in all Generic-trap field correctly. for Linkup it should be a 3 and for linkdown it should be a 2. I have a test tool that set these to 6 which is an enterprise trap and of course was not seen by IM7 or Nimbus.
Let me know what you find and we will go from there.
BTW - I took you through all the facets needed to see a trap from a device. These should be fairly automatic.

Re: Cisco mibs and Insight Manager 4.2
My routers are registered and show up correctly. I get the linkup/linkdown generic messages, but without any explanation of the interface. I get unregistered traps from the devices...I want to be able to install a mib from Cisco or wherever that will take those unrecognized traps and apply it toward the right OID.

Re: Cisco mibs and Insight Manager 4.2
It seems that any MIB that I register does not show anything when I go in to view it in IM. If you have some Cisco mibs that work can you forward them to me. I just want to capture all of the information from the linkup and linkdown traps. The linkup/linkdown settings are in my routers so they send the traps, but they go to the general linkup/linkdown traps in RFC1315.
