CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

Is there an easy way to correct this? The system wont allow me to delete it and rediscover it.

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

verify that your protocol settings specifically SNMP read community name and WBEM user and password are correct and then select the CMS and go to Options-->Discovery-->Identify Systems.

I tried that and no luck. Really hate to reinstall to fix such a minor problem. Any other suggestions?

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

To verify the SNMP and WBEM configuration for the node have been detected correctly.

1. Open a command prompt
2. Run mxnodesecurity -l
3. Look for and verify the snmp and wbem entries for your CMS.

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

The name of the CMS does not show up in the list produced by this command. I ran the command mxnodesecurity -l|find "servername" and it does not find the server. I also tried the command mxnodesecurity -l -n servername and it produces output with no names listed. Please continue to suggest options. When I run the command as you suggested, the output has two entries at the top listed as @default1 for SNMP and WEBM.

TIA

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

Do you see snmp and wbem entries listed for other servers? Normally when the identify systems task runs it creates entries for snmp and wbem for each server.

I guess a more fundamental question is what hardware are you running the CMS on? Also what does SIM display as the product name for your CMS?

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

The product name field is blank. The CMS server is a new DL360 running W2K3. The output from the mxnodesecurity shows SNMP for all servers, but not WEBM.

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

Go to options-->protocol setting-->global protocol settings. Verify that "enable WBEM" is checked and that you have valid WBEM usernames and passwords.

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

I set the WBEM credentials per your suggestion, but not luck. I did notice that on the identify page under management protocols, the only protocol listed is SSH. No SNMP, no WBEM. Can I change this somehow?

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

During systems discovery the identify systems task is run. This task determines what protocols are running on the node. For SIM to identify the SNMP protocol the node must have a community name that is configured in SIM and SNMP must be configured on that node to accept packets from the SIM server. For SIM to identify the WBEM protocol your WBEM protocol settings include a WBEM user and password that is valid on the node. You must also specify in SIM optins-->Protocol Settings-->WMI mapper proxy the name of the system (typically the SIM server) running the WMI mapper. Also the Pegasus WMI mapper service must be running.

Since it is not possible to delete and rediscover the SIM server you should run the Identify Systems task on it after you have verified and / or corrected your SNMP and WBEM configurations.

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

The pegasus service is running and the WMI proxy is listed as the CMS server. I have tried running the identify task several times after confirming the WEBM password on the client and the console and still no luck. I have also confirmed the SNMP strings to be correct. Any other suggestions?

TIA

Re: CMS server shows "unknown" for system type

Just to cover this off, on SNMP, W2003 has the Selected Hosts enabled rather than Allow all hosts that W2000 had by default.
You can either add localhost and the name of your HPSIM Server or change it to allow SNMP from all hosts.
