Re: Compaq Proliant 7000

Compaq Proliant 7000

I am having a difficult time getting HP SIM to identify an old Compaq 7000 running Windows 2000 with current support pack. Any tips or tricks to get this system to identify properly. All settings (SNMP, Trust Mode, Certificate, etc...) match the other systems being managed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Compaq Proliant 7000

What is the status in the System Type column?

I've never tried with a 7000, but we have 5000's that ID okay although they have old 6.31 Agents as they're NT4!

Re: Compaq Proliant 7000

The staus comes up as normal in he hardware column. The rest of the columns are blank. I don't think it is properly communicating with the agents as I unplugged a power supply and nothing happened. Any tricks getting the 5000's working.

Re: Compaq Proliant 7000

The columns being blank is interesting, I would have expected either UnManaged or Unknown in the System Type Column if you didn't have Server.
You should not need the agents to get the Server ID'd, SNMP can do that.

Have you run the identification task against the Server?
You could try deleting and then manually re-adding the Server via the Manual Discovery tab which will also run an Identification process.
Before that though, check SNMP has the right community names and will allow the HPSIM Server access. W2K by default has Allow All Hosts set so that should be okay.

In short, no I do not have to do anything different to identify the PL 5000.

As a test you could try to add it as a new device via the Manage System Types option. Just click New and then Retrieve from System and enter the IP Address of the Server, you can bale out before you save the device but it will test if SNMP can access the device.

Thanks for your help, noluck with the suggestions. This system is being decommissioned so it's not too big of a deal, just wanted to manage it these last couple of months.
