I'm relatively new to HP SIM so I've got a few questions.
1) Where do you set up e-mail alerts and where do you configure these alerts. I want to be alerted of things like HDD errors, CPU usage, % free of HDD etc. Is it also possible to monitor if any services fail to start on a server?
2) At the moment within HP SIM I get an error saying that the HP tape library door is open everytime backup tapes are changed. Can you put a filter on what errors you want to see?
3) Is it best to run HP SIM on a HP/Compaq machine? Currently i'm not running it on one of these but it seems to work
Thank you

Solution1) Options->Events->Automatic Event Handling-> Email Settings.
Specify the SMTP Server and Sender information (yoursimserver@yourdomain)
Create a Automatic Event Handling task. (Follow steps below. You may have to select appropriate event for HDD errors, CPU Usage etc.. select "Send email" option in the select Actions screen. Specify email details. Save the task. Every time you recieve a event specified in the task, you should get an email.
2) If you do not wish to see the "HP Tape library door open" events, create a Automatic event handling task.
Options->Events->Automatic Event Handling->New Task
Provide a task name. Then select the following criteria.
"Select Events where {Event Category} name is {Proliant Storage Events} and type name is {Tape library door opened}".
Click next.
"Select systems where {System Name} is {The system from which you recieve the event}" Click next.
There are bunch of choices.
Send page
Send e-mail
Run custom command
Assign
Write to system log
Clear event
select "clear event", if you want to delete those events automatically. Click next. You may specify the time filter if you wish. Click finish to save the task. This should take care of the tape library error.
3) Shouldnt matter.. :) Personally I prefer HPSIM on a HP machine :)
Cheers,
Hari

Re: Config of HP SIM
I've noticed that the HP SIM also picks up dell servers. It will pick up quite a few of our dell servers but not all of them. They all have SNMP enabled and can accept SNMP requests from the HP SIM pc's IP address. As it's a HP/Compaq are there some limitations with picking dell servers up or are there some updates that need to be on dell servers to be recognised by HP SIM
Thanks
